LEGO is a toy-producing company that specializes in the creation of compatible bricks. These bricks can be assembled to create various molds that differ from set to set. LEGO has created several themes; some of which were licensed from other companies, others were created by LEGO.

Once the company grew to a much larger scale, LEGO in association with Traveller's Tales and Warner Bros Interactive Entertainment, they began creating LEGO themed videogames by obtaining license from several companies.

One of the earliest license obtained by LEGO, DC Comics, was used to create the Batman theme and later the DC Superheroes theme. In addition, LEGO used this license to create a three part videogame. The three installments include: LEGO Batman: The Videogame, LEGO Batman 2: DC Superheroes and LEGO Batman 3: Beyond Gotham.

Soon after the release of LEGO Batman 2: DC Superheroes, LEGO obtained a license from Marvel. With this license, LEGO began to develop, in association with Traveller's Tales and Warner Bros Interactive Entertainment, on the videogame LEGO Marvel Superheroes. Currently, they are creating the upcoming videogame LEGO Marvel Avengers.
